It is the middle of the night, but sleep is just not possible. So I have worked crossword puzzles, played on the computer and then got out a devotional book and my Bible and began to read.
My attention was arrested when I read Psalm 118:24, “This is the day which the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
I have quoted and sung that verse many times, but not at 3:30 in the morning.
What was your best day?
The devotion continued by telling of a group of friends considering the question, “What was the best day of your life?”
Some answers were, “the day we were married,” or “the day our daughter was born.”
One man said the day he was fired from his first job was the worst and the best day, because it made him take stock of himself. That set him on a new path which brought contentment in every area of his life.
One lady who had been quiet finally spoke up and said, she thought the best day of her life was “today.”
I thank God and rejoice in today!
When asked why, she explained, “Because it's the day I value now. After all, I can't retrieve yesterday, I'm not sure of tomorrow; but this day is mine to make into whatever I want it to be.
And because it's now, and I am alive in it, it's the best and I thank God for it.”
Just prior to reading this I had thought about a professional basketball player who was known for his staying power and speed on the court.
He told how as a child his family couldn't afford a bicycle and he had felt cheated, but because of this, he ran everywhere he went. He said he believed this contributed to his present ability on the court. How he lived life then effected his present day life.
My reading reminded me of paper weight someone gave me years ago. It has the familiar saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” An ice-cold glass of lemonade has restorative powers.
Remember, He made this day for you!
We can rejoice and be glad in this day and see how God can use it for our good, even if it's for the future or to bring change in us now.
I am reminded that no matter the time, this is the day the Lord hath made and I can rejoice in it.
I personally believe, that God in his infinite love and wisdom provided everything we need for both our physical and spiritual well being. He gave us his awesome creation for our sustenance and health, then made provision and hope for our eternal destiny . Click on the link if you would like to know more.
